Hump Back Whale

I find what evokes the best in humanity, is connection. Connection to others, connection to nature, connection to self. I believe why we walk past strangers in need, yet help out struggling friends can be put down purely to differences in connection.
⠀
It amazes me how much power familiarly & time together has over how we treat one another and, on how we treat our natural world. How long would you have spend around that poor stranger, until you were no longer able ignore their need? An hour? A week? Years?
⠀
Connection defies both space & time, it’s constantly differing with everyone you meet. It can make family members feel like strangers, yet with only a few hours turn a total outsider, into a friend, an idol, or a lover. It really is powerful beyond logic.
⠀
The image above, however, is not connected. That’s not what is happening in this shot, this moment is before that. With the speed of today’s racy world forever replacing connection with distraction, I feel reminding myself and hopefully others through this image is relevant now more than ever. Because without this moment connection cannot take seed, especially around nature. Without it, we will fail to share any real depth with our natural world, ourselves and others.
⠀
This is where it starts, our lives are deprived of it, yet it’s the essential gateway to connection. This is a picture of a moment captured in a state of being that continues to lead me deeper and deeper into connection. This is the step that allows all else to follow. This, is stillness.
