A vast aquatic ecosystem which forms the foundation of an intricate food web, enabling an extensive variety of lifeforms to thrive.

Kelp grows extremely fast and although requiring sunlight to photosynthesise, it doesn’t need roots to extract nutrients from the substrate, instead absorbing them directly from the water.

The carbon sequestered by kelp forests is comparable to that of mangroves, salt marshes, and seagrass meadows combined. Reducing the amount of CO2 in the water also reduces local ocean acidification making the seaforest a refuge for marine life.

A truly magnificent sight that reminds us we are part of the natural world. But like all natural ecosystems, it faces increasing pressures. Perhaps the most pressing is a lack of knowledge and awareness.
