Ocean Narratives Challenge JUNE 2024

Ocean Culture Life is thrilled to announce the launch of our exclusive Ocean Narratives Challenge with Les Quennevais School in Jersey. This innovative program aims to engage secondary school children in the art of storytelling, with a focus on giving a voice to the ocean. We are immensely grateful for the support of our sponsors, the Jersey Community Foundation, whose generosity has made this initiative possible.

In early March, we introduced the program to all the secondary school houses at Les Quennevais. Students are now embarking on a creative journey to craft compelling narratives that highlight the importance of marine conservation. This challenge is a call to action for young storytellers to share positive tales of ocean heroes, as well as stories that illuminate the pressing challenges our oceans currently face.

Storytelling is a powerful tool that comes in various forms, and we encourage participants to explore their creativity without boundaries. Whether through art, science, photography, music, drama, or creative writing, students are invited to express their connection to the ocean in the medium of their choice.

The culmination of the Ocean Narratives Challenge will be a special event in June, coinciding with the week of World Oceans Day. This private exhibition, set against the stunning backdrop of St Ouen's Beach, will be exclusive to school members and showcase all the submitted projects. During this event, an inspirational OCL community member will have the honour of announcing the three winners.

This program not only celebrates the imaginative power of our youth but also emphasises the critical role that storytelling can play in fostering a deeper connection to our marine environments. Through the Ocean NarrativesChallenge, we aim to inspire the next generation to become advocates for the ocean, armed with the knowledge and passion to make a difference.
